About Tonya Humiston

I help complex organizations communicate clearly through narrative, design systems, and visual storytelling.

My work connects strategy, product, and communication—bringing clarity to ideas that need to be understood and trusted.

My work spans apparel and product design, brand and visual communication, data storytelling, and strategic design. The thread connecting all of it is the same: I study how systems function — whether a technical garment, a research report, or an organizational message — and design ways to make them understandable and useful.

That instinct started in the U.S. Army, where I served overseas as a linguist. I learned to listen closely, synthesize quickly, and translate complexity across cultures under pressure. It deepened through a decade in technical apparel design. Communicating construction intent to overseas factories required precision documentation and genuine cross-cultural fluency.

Over time my focus expanded from product to narrative. I have partnered with military and intelligence communities, federal agencies, scientists, educators, product teams, and organizational leaders to bring clarity to ideas that matter. Each chapter of that journey added a distinct layer of capability. The result is a practice that draws from multiple disciplines simultaneously. The most interesting problems rarely respect the boundaries of any single one.
